Luis Angel Salazar Avila, Second Violin


Luis Angel Salazar Avila Luis Angel Salazar Avila, born in San Diego, California, USA on March 8, 1994. He started playing violin at age five at the Center of Musical Studies at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) who had Jelena Berskrovnaia as a violin professor until 2007. He began to participate as a soloist and member of OCEM (Orchestra of Musical Studies Center of UABC) when he was ten. He was also concertmaster of the Youth Orchestra of Musical Studies Center. He has also participated with OSIM (Mexican Youth Orchestra) for three years.

In 2007 he started taking violin lessons and chamber with Dr. Omar Hernandez- Hidalgo until 2010 when he was unfortunately killed. During those three years he received several awards, locally and statewide as "Young Talent of Baja California" (2008 - 2012), "Young Talent of Ensenada" (2008, 2009), "Young Talent of the Year Baja California" (2010, 2011). In late 2010 began to take violin lessons with the teacher Nonna Alakhverdova until mid-2011. He has received master classes with Vera Kulkova, Penderecki String Quartet, Felix Olchofka, Konstantin Ziumbilov, Alla Krolevich, Kornelis Coelmans, Leo Brower, St. Petersburg String Quartet, etc.

He has participated in several summer camps around Mexico and United States, including St. Petersburg String Quartet Summer Academy 2010 and 2013, Nebraska Chamber Music Summer Camp (2013), Festival de Musica Santiago de Queretaro (2013), among other. In 2011 he moved to Wichita, Kansas, to study with Dr. Alla Aranovskaya, the first violin St. Petersburg Quartet, as well as Chamber Music with Leonid Shukaev, cellist of the same quartet at Wichita State University.

During his senior year of high school at Wichita High School East, he served as concertmaster of the high school's orchestra, District Orchestra, All-City Orchestra, and All-State Orchestra. He has been co-concertmaster of the Wichita State University Symphony Orchestra since then. In 2012 he was appointed the 1st violin position for the distinguished scholarship "Walenta String Quartet" which is the official undergraduate string quartet. In May of 2013 Walenta String Quartet won 1st prize at the "Wolff Bing Chamber Music Competition 2013". In the same competition, we won 1st prize with his Cardo String Trio a year later in 2014.

He is currently a sophomore in Violin Performance, violinist from the Orfeo String Trio, 2nd violin of the St. Petersburg String Quartet, and a student of Alla Aranovskaya.
